Java Flower Show, Silver Tea Saturday

The Java Garden Club will host its 54th annual Flower Show and Silver Tea on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Java Community Center, formerly the Java Legion Hall.

The theme for this year’s show is “Summer Highlights.” Gladiolas and roses will be the featured flowers, although there demise be many other classes in the gardening alienation for mutable summer flowers, vegetables, habitation plants and also in the artistic division.

Present officers are president Violet Goetz, who is also Sunshine; vice president Lorraine Fiechtner; secretary/reporter Viola Goetz; cash-keeper Betty Schnaible, and annalist Gloria Zimmerman.

Everyone is encouraged to exhibit and entries will be accepted from 8:30 to 11 a.m. on the day of the show. Local exhibitors are urged to bring their entries early to avoid any finally minute confusion. Any late entries will be displayed, but not judged.

Everyone is cordially invited to bear exhibits and to attend the show and tea. Door prizes will have existence given throughout the afternoon and refreshments will be served. Carol Fiedler is chairman of the finest part show and the co-chairman is Lorraine Fiechtner.

Viola Goetz is chairman of the evening meal. The co-chairman is Ramona Krause. Gold ribbons will be awarded for the following: 1. Best Gladiola, 2. Best Rose, 3. Most uncollected arrangement (Adult Division), 4. Most outstanding arrangement (Junior Division, ages 16 and under) and 5. Best any other horticulture specimen of the show (including houseplants).

Sweepstakes ribbons will be awarded to the exhibitor receiving the most blue ribbons in the horticulture division and to the exhibitor receiving the most blue ribbons in the marked by knowledge of art portion. If in that place is a tie in either difference, the red ribbons of the tied exhibitors will be counted to determine the sweepstakes winner. Blue, red and white ribbons will be awarded for first, second and third place in each lot where merited. All plant materials should be clean and free from insect damage or froth residue. Clean, undamaged foliage improves people horticulture exhibits, but it must be natural to the stem of the specimen. Foliage should not be below the water.1. Any exhibitor may have without more one entry in harvested land destiny (or number). 2. All horticultural specimens must be grown by the exhibitor. 3. In the artistic class, it is permissible to use material not grown by the exhibitor. 4. Horticultural specimens must have being exhibited in a plain glass bottle or jar. 5. The Java Garden Club does not assume responsibility with a view to loss or breakage; however all possible attention will be taken. 6. Entries will be accepted from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Late or unclassified entries will be exhibited but will not exist judged. 7. Accessories and/or vases may be used in arrangements, if desired.Class I: Gladiolas - 1 spike per lot: 1. white, 2. choice part, 3. yellow, 4. orange, 5. apricot or salmon, 6. pink or rose, 7. scarlet or red, 8. lavender, 9. purple, 10. bi-color, 11. any other color, 12. any named variety, 13. miniature - any color.

Class II: Roses - Hybrid Tea, 1 stem: 14. white or cream, 15. pink or rose, 16. red, 17. yellow, 18. bi-color, 19. any other color, 20. Floribunda, 1 spray - any color, 21. Grandiflora, 1 bough - any color, 22. any other rose.

Class III: Phlox (perennial): 23. any color - 1 petiole, 24. any color - 3 stems.

Class IV: Lilies (any hardy lily): 25. frosty or fulvous - 1 stem, 26. orange - 1 stem, 27. any other color - 1 stem.

Class V: Daylilies or Hemerocallis (Day Lily): 28. any color - 1 stem.

Class VI: Dahlias: 29. giant decorative - 1 bloom, 30. ball or pompom - 1 bloom, 31. cactus type - 1 bloom, 32. any other Dahlia - 1 bloom.

Class VII: Zinnias: 33. colossus, 3 blooms - any shade or colors, 34. medium, 3 blooms - any color or flag, 35. miniature, 3 blooms - any excuse or colors.

Class VIII: Marigolds: 36. immense, 3 blooms - 1 color, 37. intermediate, 3 blooms - 1 color, 38. dwarf, 3 blooms - some color.
